Great blog post. I've always been intrigued by the Border War. I opted to do it in 1/600 with TankWreck (just need to paint up the armies).

Thanks Prince Albert! I'd be interested in seeing what you do.

Great conflict to game ,lots of point blank combat due to Bush. S.African artillery was the difference,.

I tested out Tank Wreck! and found it was a pretty good set of rules.

I have an extensive 1/300 Border War collection – also from Scotia.
The War in Angola website is very useful
warinangola.com
They have scenarios too:

And if you can get hold of it – Issue Number 2 of the old Command Post Quarterly (CPQ) magazine by GDW from the early 1990s had a great supplement on the Border War with TOEs for all sides plus a campaign game. I see Noble Knight has a couple of them available

Thanks very much for the info. Andrew. I'll certainly look into that.

Good project. Plenty of scope from the start in the 60s through to late 80s. A couple of good books, Cuito Cuanavale by Fred Brigland.
SADF in the Border War by Leopoldo Scholtz. A really good one, if you can find it War in Angola by Helmoed-Romer Heitman. This covers the final phase. He was a serving officer and contributes to Jane's Defence weekly on regular occasions. I will follow your blog with interest!
