Sydney Herbert Davies is a veteran of the Civil War. Still, this soldier has the unique distinction of serving three different nations – Great Britain, the United States, and New Zealand…

OK, not the United States, but the Confederacy…

Always glad to see an unusual career, but I'd be very surprised if three different nations makes him unique. Plenty of ACW vets in the Egyptian Army, for instance, or serving one side or the other in Mexico. Men with European service prior to ACW service, or who served with Walker in Central America.

Hmm. I wonder how many Irish served in the British Army and the Union Army and then joined the Fennians? The 19th Century isn't as ripe with opportunities as the 18th or the first half of the 20th, but there were still enough wars to keep a career man busy.

Percy Wyndham served prior to the ACW in the French navy, the British army, and the Austrian army; he fought for the Union, commanding the 1st NJ Cavalry for a period and being wounded at Brandy Station. After the war he served in the Italian army. He died in 1879 in a hot-air balloon accident in Rangoon.
