Along with the War of 1812, I consider Korea the US forgotten war. On June 24, 1950, my father's father Charles Ellsworth ("Else") Mowery died. It was also one of my parents' anniversaries. I was 13. Because of time zones, it was the 25th in Korea.

I enlisted in the Army in early 1955, went to the Army Language School in Monterey, CA for a year to study Czech, and was terrified as I was completing my course to find that there was a Czech truce team in Korea! I had expected to be sent the Germany, and wanted no part of Asia.

Luckily, Germany it was!

You enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955, and you are still going strong?

You, Sir, are a Rock Star !!!!

+1!

My Dad got drafted during the Korean War and they trained him on light AA, particularly the M-16 halftrack with the quad .50cal powered mount. His unit was told they would be shipping out to Korea to serve as frontline fire support and AA secondary role, but the Army screwed up the orders and send his whole unit to German to crew 90mm AA gun intended to fend off Soviet bombers. Whew! But a bunch of his buddies went to Korea, not all came home, and some who did were only whole in body :(

My mother's second husband got drafted, and after basic, he and a few others were held back for specialized training before being sent to Korea. He arrived to learn that about half of his basic training class that had preceded him had already been killed or wounded. His unit was scheduled to rotate up to the front the day the armistice was declared.

Forgotten by whom? Overshadowed perhaps, by the conflicts that preceded and followed.

Good on Warlord Games for trying to bring this conflict back from the Cold. Huzzah!
