Hi all,

I have purchased various uniform guides for this conflict. Some of them depict Mexican light infantry wearing a grey uniform with a similar pattern to the U.S uniform.

Was this uniform worn as I can find little reference to it other than the uniform guides? Figure manufacturers don't seem to offer it as an option.

Yup. We just use US infantry figures. Indeed, since some US troops wore grey, you have a unit that can go either way!

"The War in Mexico" by Anton Adams and " Mexican American War 1846-48" by Ron Field (Brassey's) both state that the fatigue cap was used by light infantry regiments 1thru 3.

The first three regiments of Mexican light infantry wore the grey fatigue uniform. IIRC, their forage cap had a red tassel on the top. Very similar to the US fatigue uniform in cut.

The 4th used a uniform more similar to the Mexican line infantry.

Here is a link to my Mexican light infantry in fatigues uniform (2nd light infantry to be precise): link

Thank you all very much. Very informative. I'll work on some conversions and paint them up.

doc mbc, would that be U.S volunteer regiments?
