Guys I lost the article. Does anyone else remember a generic rearguard generator using a deck of cards? The defender drew a limited number of cards and only those of his suite represented units. Everyone else was a dummy counter, so the attacker had no idea going in whether he was facing a serious defense or an isolated unit or two. Does anyone remember who wrote it or where it appeared? |

No, but it sounds VERY interesting. When you find it let us know. You might take a look at the SONG OF THE SPLINTERED LANDS scenario book I did for the SONG OF BLADES AND HEROES system, some years ago. It has some modular rules for meeting engagements in which neither side knows precisely what and also HOW MANY the other side has, AND variable missions. |

Robert, it sounds to me like you remember how the idea works, how many cards, what suits, i'm sure oyu can apply to different scenarios yourself. |

Thank you, Mark. Yeah, for practical purposes I'm OK. But I promised a friend a copy when I found mine, and when I use someone's idea, I try to give credit. Sad truth is, miniature warfare has a lot of diligent researchers and a decent number of intelligent adaptors, but all the original ideas of the last 40 years or so wouldn't take up a lot of shelf space. (Me? Intelligent adaptor--and only on my good days.) |
