We would probably like them better if we could just specify whose head they were holding! My Gaul holding a head would have been much more fun if Renegade would have offered a choice of heads: a.Julius Caesar b.Claudius c. Vespasian

I suspect the 17% who like them are mostly fantasy gamers (like me), while the 46% who dislike/hate them are mostly historical gamers. For me, it is all about context. In a fantasy game, they are pretty much a standard, expected trope, baked into some evil fantasy races (Goblins, Orcs, Gnolls, etc.). Cheers! |

Couple of my Celts are holding heads to taunt da Romans. Think it's historical. |

In some contexts severed heads of vanquished enemies would fall within the realm of historical accuracy. Ancient Celts, as mentioned above, would take heads as trophies, as did several other "Barbarian" cultures (Thracians, Scythians). Later, the Samurai, would present the heads of defeated enemies to their lords.A figure brandishing such a gruesome item might be included on a command stand, for example, for atmosphere, or as some kind of victory marker, etc. |
