Do you use less space when gaming with smaller figures, compared to larger figures? |
Rich Bliss | 02 Jun 2023 12:07 p.m. PST |
Sometimes, but not often. |
ColCampbell | 02 Jun 2023 12:19 p.m. PST |
No, normally just use more troops for smaller figure sizes. Jim |

Yes, usually (but not always). |

Generally. One of the points of my microscale armies is that I can transport them to a friend's place and play on a card table, and of the 2mils that I can play a game on a desktop. You can do a 28mm skirmish/RPG on an equally small surface (sometimes) but for a full-bore fantasy or horse & musket battle in 28mm, I prefer a 4x6 or 6x8 table. |

Usually the same sized table. It is there so why not use it. The smaller the scale the more realistic the game looks. |

Normally, I game on my custom gaming table, 5.5' x 9.5'. But for gaming with 54mm Army Men figures, I use multiple 4' x 8' plywood sheets, to make something around 12' x 30', if possible (aisle up the middle so all parts can be reached). My custom built table is way too small for 54mm gaming. Cheers! |

The table is always the same size. Like before smaller scales usually get more troops on the table or the space used shrinks towards the middle. Leaving room around the sides to sit beers. |

Depends on the rules, period, and scenario. More often than not my 15mm games have many more figures than my 28mm games. I play 15mm in periods that have larger battles, such as ACW, Napoleonics, and FPW. Makes it a lot easier to fit a battle such as Antietam or Ligny in the game room. In periods that have mostly small battles, I do 28mm. That would include the AWI, Boer War, and French North Africa. As for table space, lately, my 15mm games have taken up more space. I don't use a custom one-size-fits-all table. I like the flexibility of using 6ft folding tables. link |

Sometimes, although the table size is more generally a function of scenario, period, rules and game format. For remote games (which we still do twice a week), there is only so much you can fit in camera view. As other people have commented, in smaller scales I generally just put more stuff on. |

I play To the Strongest in 15mm with a 4" grid, and in 28mm with a 6" grid, so that's a 'yes'. But I've played games on large tables with 6mm figures, so that's a 'no'. Overall : 'it depends'. |
ZULUPAUL | 03 Jun 2023 3:30 a.m. PST |
Since I play DBA/HOTTS yes the size varies by scale of figures |

Sometimes. The two Grant's SYW scenarios, for example, are designed for 28mm figures. I scale them down to use with my 18mm figures. |

Not often but then again we almost always play Grand Tactical When the grandkids are over for skirmish gaming we do use a smaller table (the Grand Tactical table is 5 X 14 feet) |
etotheipi | 03 Jun 2023 12:23 p.m. PST |
Not necessarily. Play area also varies by scenario. |

Not necessarily. A boarding action on a small space ship on about a 3ft x 3ft space is probably the smallest miniatures game I've ever played -- and then it was really just a game of SnapShot using miniatures instead of counters. |
