Slingshot issue 344 provides a look at Phil Sabin's terrain tiles made from cork.

Do you use cork tiles for your wargaming terrain needs? If so, how?

I don't have access to the Slingshot article so I'm not sure what follows is actually responsive to that inquiry, but cork bark has long been used by gamers and model railroaders as terrain elements.

To wit.

Cork tiles stuck to MDF for my river and coast boards

Used them to build up hedgerows and rough ground, but not as the base or anything like that.

No. No access to Slingshot, either. Cheers!

No, but I haven't ruled out the possibility someday for some project.

Yes.

I've followed British gamers terrain sites for years, many of whom use cork. In the western US, it's hard to source the exact cork they use. I've gotten floor underlayment cork and layered it up into hills, and I've used cork tile (pinboard tiles) to layer up small terrain bases to the exact height I want. And I've crumbled cork scraps to make uneven terrain on bases.

I use cork tiles as bases below all of my card buildings and fortifications, to give them stability and weight as below:
