The 33d Foot was a very distinguished regiment in the Revolution and was reportedly Cornwallis' favorite. It was badly mauled at Guilford Courthouse in March 1781, its commander being mortally wounded.

Cornwallis was Colonel of the 33rd from 1766 until his death in 1806.

Has anyone read this book? Reviews? I'd really like to read this one if it is well written.

It's only just out.

If you read the link, Mark Urban is quoted as liking it.

Cornwallis was Colonel of the 33rd from 1766 until his death in 1806.

He paid close attention to its training and 'interior oeconomy.' expending much time and money.

Hence, yes, the 33rd was Cornwallis' favourite regiment

Distinguished in the SYW and WAS too. At Dettingen, it shot up one of the companies of the Maision du Roi with platoon fire at close range as they were trying to break the British part of the line. A traditionally tough bunch.

And of course, the 33rd aquitted themselves creditably after joining the Duke of York's expedition to the Low Countries in 1794-95, despite being sorely reduced by sickness (and their flank coys being sent to the West Indies). Their commanding officer being one lieutenant Colonel, Hon. Arthur Wesley, shortly to be Wellesley. Notably in actions at Boxtel, Tuil and Geldermalsen.

At Guilford Courthouse, out of a strength of 234, the regiment lost 11 killed and 65 wounded. LtCol Webster who was acting as the brigade commander was mortally wounded. For the other officers, one was killed and 9 wounded. The acting regimental commander in Webster's absence was Captain Frederick Cornwallis.
