I'm looking to get a mat or two for WWI air combat and would like suggestions from the masses about which mats give a good feel for what the ground would actually look like. I have a 6x8 area to cover, and most of what I've seen advertised on various websites are 4x6. so I could use 1 or 2 mated together, but I'd like to get the perspective from actual users on what "looks right" in real life, and not just on the company's advertisement. Thanks in advance. Tom

I cant comment on what is realistic. What I can say is that I have gone with neoprene mats, as they lay flat. And I have used the Deep Cut Studios mats. I have used the Aerial Battlefield pattern.

Is that the Cigar Box mat, Nick?

What scale are the planes? Are you looking for bombed out no man's land or generic landscape? (I'd go with latter, giving more use for the mat.)

Recently, I played a fellow's 15mm land game using one of the epic size mats from Cigar Box. Wow. The quality is amazing. The photos don't do them justice. I wonder if they can do a custom size mat for you?

My favorite WWI aviation mats are from Ares Games for Wings of Glory. They sell a trench mat. Size could be an issue.
