What rules are you using for SST style games these days and why do you like them?

The SPI had an excellent set ( hex based) called star soldier 1973?

Translates to figures really well.

I've played and enjoyed the Mongoose version.

Classic REH version would be using the AH board game in miniature.

Space Marine from FGU or Starguard would be another option (both OLD School).

Striker and StrikerII could work though no real rules for hordes.

2nd Mongoose rules as a fun game.

Classic Traveller Double Adventure 5: Chamax Plague / Horde has rules for hordes that would get you started. It was intended to play well with Striker, but somehow I have never actually played that out. Hmmm…

Striker and Striker II of course have Traveller battle dress, which is powered armor, not too far from the Mobile Infantry's armor in Starship Troopers.

DS 2.

Now, hear me out . . . The range of weapons carried by MI in the book are very large, and having jump-capable Powered Armour in those rules in not a huge stretch.

And there are some suitable minis, such as the older Pendraken Games 10mm PA suits and Scotia Grendel's PA as well, that would work.

I use a stripped down version of Mongoose's Starship Trooper rules. I also run it as a moderated cooperative game. The players all play Mobile Infantry squads and the ref(s) play the Bugs. Allows for the Bugs to act like Bugs and makes for some entertaining games.

Fistful of Lead: Bigger Battles.

Might give Xenos Rampant a go too.

I have played Xenos Rampant modeling a heavy armored trooper. They hold up pretty well.

I need to read the rules for 5150 Star Army – Citizen Soldier. It has BTA which is inspired by SST's power armor. It is also designed for solo or co-op play which is important to me.

Space Marines by FGU the thing is that the rules were written with the intent of representing stuff from classic science fiction. Powered Armour A is maurauder armour and don't you want to know how it holds up against a Bolo?

Galactic Heroes from Wiley Games or their Bigger Battles. I also like Xeno's Rampant.

Thanks

John

I played in an convention game using modified Mongoose Starship Troopers rules, and enjoyed it.
