I've just painted my latest unit for, my never ending, Darkest Africa project. This is the first wargames unit I've ever done were the only evidence I could find was in old photos and not in writing.

More pictures and information on my Blog, for those interested, here

Great Work!

Do you have any other Zanzibar units planned other than those already covered by the Darkest Africa range?

Dragon Gunner@ I built a Zanzibari/Arab/Swahili army using mostly Foundry a long time ago. Recently I thought I'd add some British trained Zanzibar Regulars available from Copplestone, to the older army, and I've painted up several units of those now.

While I was researching the Regulars I realised that the later Sultans built up their own private guard to counter balance the regular army which was controlled by the British. The Guard lancers are one of those but I'm going to add some palace guard infantry (probably using Foundry Azande bodyguard miniatures) and some palace guard artillery converted from Perry plastic ACW artillery with head swaps from Perry plastic Mahdists for Fez wearing heads.

One of the projects I am clinging to and refuse to part with as I slim down my collections is TSATF Jarania campaign using Darkest Africa miniatures. I hope I have time in retirement to run it for the local club. The Sultanate of Jarania was going to be loosely based on Zanzibar. I look forward to seeing your future posts on this topic thank you for posting.

Dragon Gunner@ That's a very cool campaign background.
