Decoration Day Weekend at Historic Fort Snelling • May 27-29

Learn the history of Memorial Day and see all that Historic Fort Snelling has to offer at Decoration Day events, May 27-29. Decoration Day was a precursor to Memorial Day, and we'll have programming all across the site, from the prairie landscape, to the visitor center, to the historic fort itself. Saturday morning we will be rededicating the reconstructed 1820s fort flag pole and raising the garrison flag. And on Monday, Historic Fort Snelling staff will be dressed in 1890s military costuming to present "Decoration Day" speeches reflecting on past American conflicts, as were often heard on this day in the late 1800s. Included in regular site admission.
