Already so much is gone so a timely reminder! There are threads still going on LAF for example, whose opening entries have broken images – much here too.

I can't read the article without getting an app I don't want.

We find that many posts about member's blogs now lead nowhere – the blogs are gone. frown

The posts (or topics) are removed when we find them, or when someone reports them.

I asked Bard to outline then summarize the article:

Introduction

The internet is a vast and ever-changing landscape.
As new websites and content are created, old ones are often forgotten and lost.
This can have a significant impact on our ability to access and preserve history.

Body

There are a number of reasons why websites and content disappear from the internet.

Some websites are simply abandoned by their creators.

Others are taken down due to copyright or legal issues.

Still others are lost due to technical problems or changes in the internet infrastructure.

The loss of internet content can have a number of negative consequences.

It can make it difficult to access information about the past.

It can also make it difficult to preserve historical records.

In some cases, it can even lead to the loss of cultural heritage.

Conclusion

It is important to be aware of the problem of internet content loss.
There are a number of things that can be done to help preserve internet content.
Individuals can save websites and content to their own computers.
Organizations can create archives of internet content.
Governments can pass laws to protect internet content.
Summary

The internet is a valuable resource for information and history. However, as new websites and content are created, old ones are often forgotten and lost. This can have a significant impact on our ability to access and preserve history. There are a number of things that can be done to help preserve internet content, including saving websites and content to your own computer, creating archives of internet content, and passing laws to protect internet content. By taking these steps, we can help ensure that the internet remains a valuable resource for future generations.

Here are some additional tips for preserving internet content:

Bookmark websites that you find valuable.
Use a service like Wayback Machine to archive websites.
Donate your digital files to a library or archive.
Share your digital files with others.
By taking these steps, you can help ensure that the internet's memory is not lost forever.

There's a lot of stuff on the Internet we don't need to keep.

LAF is a unique site.

Members can upload images directly to the thread they are chatting about. LAF also has a members gallery, which is also uploaded images. The images in the gallerias are essentially image hosting.

For those long time members of LAF, (remembering back to photo bucket clisma), the LAF gallerias are unique to pretty much any miniatures web site around.

Imgur is now applying a new policy where if the images posted there are not viewed within 6 months, they will be blocked.

So the question about how long a life does the internet have, really boils down to how one views the future. If you want stuff like photos to be around for awhile, then you need to have a plan to make that happen.

Yes. We could print all the stuff we want to keep onto paper. Then we could put all the bits of paper together. We could call it…erm…how about…a ‘book'?
