okay, thanks for the help on my other queries – this one is just one other bugbear for me – space. What rules are best for reasonably sized games that could play on just around 4x4feet or smaller spaces?

If you go for 1:600 models and a finer hex grid any game aimed at 1:300 models should fit easily.

Blood Red Skies plays fine on a 4 foot square; in fact most of the scenarios are designed for that.
