I am inclined always to make my own paper models and 1/600 scale is what interests me , – i am trying to get an idea of how big they actually are and my general calculations are that a spitfire is about 1.55cms in length at 1/600 scale – is this correct? |

If Spitfire was 9.3 m (930 cm) long in real life, then in 1/600 scale it would be 1.55 cm long (930 divided by 600). |

I have many 1/600 moderns and they tend to be about 1 inch / 2.5cm from tip to tail. Smaller planes like MiG-15 and Folland Gnats are in the 3/4 inch neighborhood. I imagine most WW2 fighters would be pretty small, around 15mm or so. |

okay cool, hmm its getting maybe too small at that size for paper, perhaps i should go with 1/300 instead will have to test things out |

There is a lamentably "dead" scale of aircraft models that once blended the better aspects of 1/300 and 1/600. 1/432 scale existed briefly in the 70s and 80s. Heritage Airpower was the manufacturer. When Heritage imploded the line was purchased by Pewtercraft which also ceased operations many years ago. The Pewtercraft website is still active, maintained by an interested collector, as an informational resource. link |

I've got a bunch of 1/1250th planes and they are minute. My recollection of the aircraft which came with Airfix 1/600th ships is also that they were tiny. 1/300th planes can be quite big though, especially bombers and postwar jets. WW2 fighters are generally pretty small apart from twin engined aircraft and P47s. |

1/200 is a good scale. Armaments in Miniature has a good range, and you can fill a lot of it in with 3D prints. I do 1/200 for jet age. They do not look to bad screaming in on my 1/600 Falklands stuff. |

Several Japanese makers make 1/700 (same scale as their ships) and also have quite a selection (but probably more expensive now than the last time I bought some.) My favorites, however, are the 1/500's that came with my 1/500 Shokaku aircraft carrier, fantastically detailed… ;-) |

I like 1/300 for WWII and 1/600 for moderns. BUT I only have 1/300 for both. Modern aircraft can be quite huge LOL Especially the F-14 Tomcat …….. |

whoa – wait – 1/1250 scale aircraft- so a ww2 spitfire would be like 0.07mm or so in size? thats provb too small even for me |

A fighter is about an inch wingspan in 1:600 |
