I have begun a Gangs of Rome project for a local con in October using mostly Sarissa's Streets of Rome series.

More images and a tutorial if anyone is interested on my blog link

Very nice, really make them look "lived in".

Breathtaking, takes me back to Pompeii!

but… in the interest of complete accuracy which obviously is important to you, what are those vegetables? Tomatoes, potatoes, and squashes are all New World plants…

Oh, and add graffiti liberally…

Dagwood15 May 2023 5:13 a.m. PST

They must be onions and pomegranates..

Simply stellar. Museum quality work.

Looks like a diorama, not a game board. Fantastic!

jgawne15 May 2023 10:10 a.m. PST

wow, those look amazing. They would make me want to play. Maybe you should put a few drops of vinegar in the toilet area for an extra sensation.

Darn fine work! Makes me want to start a new game…

Volleyfire16 May 2023 3:39 a.m. PST

Oh how I love this, makes me want to start the same period immediately even though I know I haven't the time.

FrankFurt16 May 2023 4:33 a.m. PST

Thanks for all the kind words.

@Eumelus – clearly onions and pomegranates as Dagwood pointed out. No queries about the blue walls?

@Zeelow – the mosaic is simple card stock printed from the internet with some gloss varnish. Very easily achieved.

I assumed the blue was Egyptian blue, which was produced in southern Italy? True, I've never seen depictions of it used as exterior paint (unlike the ubiquitous red), but doesn't seem impossible and certainly makes the Taberna of the Blue Cock stand out…

Great work!

Terrific work, especially the non Porta potties. Wouldn't want to be there when the other gang comes through.

Legionarius16 May 2023 7:22 p.m. PST

These are indeed museum pieces.
