Here's a little more detail: link Two cohort-size camps. One big enough for two cohorts. Spaced a little further than a day's march apart, setting aside the different sizes. Certainly an advance of knowledge, but I'd be a hard sell on the journalists' notion of a cohort of 500 camel-mounted Romans traveling 100+ miles through hostile territory and sneaking up on the locals. |

Thanks for that. Sounds more like a detached flank guard, screening force or blocking force. I believe Trajan did create a camel unit, maybe it was their patrol bases rather than part of any attack. |
