If you had an army of true 25s (Minifigs, etc.) what did you do with them?

Did you drop down to 15s or smaller, go up to 28s, do you still game with them, are they collecting dust, or did you just get rid of them? If you still game with them, do you still add units to your armies?

I sold all of my 25mm figures off. I didn't replace any of it in a timely manner. I did buy several hundred painted 25mm Minifig Napoleonic figures recently for a decent price, so that got me wondering about what everyone else did with their old collections.

I still play with mine -- early medieval, American Revolution, Napoleonic, and Victorian colonial. It would be too expensive and time consuming to replace them now that I'm in my mid 70s.

I was a 30's man, so it wasn't a major problem in historicals. It's an ongoing annoyance in SF, but that's mostly skirmish where variant sizes are easier to finesse, as long as I can avoid 32's.

bobm195911 May 2023 8:16 a.m. PST

I decided to not care from early on; my armies featured Minifigs and Essex alongside each other before anyone used the term "28mm". All play happily together…

Sold most and went to 15mm. Still have a load of Old Glory "25mm" English Civil War with Rupert's Regiment of foot being Hinchcliffe 25mm. They look it bit under nourished and vertically impaired compared to the all glory figures. 😉

Shark Six Three Zero11 May 2023 8:30 a.m. PST

Sold them years ago.

nickinsomerset11 May 2023 8:42 a.m. PST

Sold some, kept some now have Sword and Sorcery forces using the Minifigs S&S range and another project just finished is the same, but with the Garrison S&S range,

Tally Ho!

Dave Knight11 May 2023 8:43 a.m. PST

Still use them. I had a game of Test of Resolve Wars of the Roses yesterday featuring Garrison, Essex and others alongside Perry Plastics. Some of the figures are nearer 50 than 40 years old, but fight and die just as well as their modern cousins.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2023 8:44 a.m. PST

Kept them. I also mixed 25s with early heroic 25s etc. without any concern.

JimDuncanUK11 May 2023 9:23 a.m. PST

I have a large Greek/Macedonian 25mm army just looking for a fair price and a buyer.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2023 9:39 a.m. PST

Kept them.

IronDuke596 Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2023 9:50 a.m. PST

I have hundreds of unpainted Minifigs and Hinchcliffe 25mm Napoleonics that I have meaning to sell. I have been collecting 28mm Napoleonics.

Personal logo StoneMtnMinis Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2023 9:53 a.m. PST

Kept them and play with them (Denizen 25mm and our old range of 25mm Western).

As someone said earlier they fight just fine and I like them.

Grelber11 May 2023 10:07 a.m. PST

I kept my 25 mm Classic Greeks and Byzantines, though they haven't been out to play in a while.

I sold off my 25mm Vikings in two installments and replaced them with 28 mm figures. This was at the time the "heroic size" figures, like Foundry and Old Glory, were coming out with lots of variants, which just seemed more appropriate for Vikings.

I still have them, hundreds of painted Napoleonics, 5 times as many unpainted. I even have "S"range Napoleonics. Minifigs of course.
Who doesn't love Minifigs?

Darrell B D Day11 May 2023 11:11 a.m. PST

Still got them – mixed in with my Hinton Hunt and Minifigs 20mm

My 25s are Ral Partha Brits and Pathans for Sword and the Flame. They continue to campaign.

Steamingdave211 May 2023 12:07 p.m. PST

Had about 600 Minifigs and Hinchcliffe Napoleonics and a couple of hundred Wars of the Roses. Sold them and moved to 15mm, and 6mm Napoleonics after a brief dalliance with 28mm. Still have the 15mm and 6mm, but now building up 10mm Napoleonics for the Peninsular War, a theatre which I did not have figures for in the other scales. I also began a slow build of 10mm Wars of the Roses.

Kropotkin30311 May 2023 12:20 p.m. PST

I have pretty much only collected 25mm. Minifigs, Garrison, Ral Partha, Heritage. Only really fantasy and sci-fi. Still using them and on the lookout for things I do not have.

HansPeterB11 May 2023 1:41 p.m. PST

Sold my Napoleonics 18 years ago, to my lasting regret. I've hung on to my 25mm medievals and have played SAGA with them once or twice, but they look a little silly compared with my opponents' 28s. I do sometimes slip a few old Ral Partha figs in with larger figures for TSATF/TMWWBK and regularly play Warlord of Erehwon with archaic Heritage and RP 25s from the 70s. Other than that, though, they mostly all just sit around in plastic bins gathering dust. These days, I game mostly in 28mm, but have a couple of large 15mm forces (7YW, WWII, and ACW) plus a handful of 15mm armies for DBxx and HOTT.

epturner11 May 2023 1:59 p.m. PST

I don't know about Minifigs, but I have quite a few RAFM Riel Rebellion figures that are getting painted…finally.

IronDuke, we might want to talk. I have some true 25mm figures that might need some companions. I might be interested in your Minifigs.

I sold my 25mm Naps decades ago when Stan Glanzer sculpted the 15mm for Duke Seifried.

I sold my 25mm MiniFig ECW to your brother Bob a few years ago. I think I put the money into 18mm Blue Moon ACW.

I also sold my 25mm ACW sculpted by Stan to Bob and put that money into Blue Moon 18mm ACW.

Never had any unless you count 1/72 Airfix as 25mm.

Metal figures were always 15mm or 6mm in the early days, only a few 20mm metals later on to match those of others in our local group.

JMcCarroll11 May 2023 3:38 p.m. PST

Used some of the Medieval for GW LOTR armies. Used a few small figures for 20mm WW2 also.

UshCha11 May 2023 3:46 p.m. PST

Is that 25mm or 24.5mm or even "20mm".
I do use some old Airfix and some newer about 1/72 scale.
My main kit is True 1/144 scale.

Personal logo gamertom Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2023 5:23 p.m. PST

Still have them. I keep them in the same units rather than mixing with the big fellows. Also make separate brigades of them. But it's time to start divesting because they are getting heavier to cart to and from games now that I'm 70.

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2023 5:31 p.m. PST

Mostly kept 'em in the same unit – just had a game with a mix of 25s and 28s, as long as you are not too fussy they work just fine

Gray Bear11 May 2023 5:42 p.m. PST

I still have, and love, my Hinchliffe Renaissance figures. They are intermixed with Old Glory and an occasional Foundry figure on large bases and look just fine to my old eyes.

khanscom11 May 2023 7:07 p.m. PST

I still have a large number of RAFM ancients-- why would I get rid of them? DBx basing lets me use them with any compatibly- based opponent.

A smaller number of assorted medievals are perfectly compatible with 1/72 plastics.

Historifigs still casts the Scruby 25mm figs which has given me the opportunity to build new Mexican War armies.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2023 8:00 p.m. PST

I use them. They are probably most of my miniatures from all periods.

rmaker11 May 2023 8:36 p.m. PST

They continue in service.

Korvessa11 May 2023 8:39 p.m. PST

My Ral Partha Renaissance still soldier on

Love 'em, still buying, painting and using them.

IUsedToBeSomeone12 May 2023 2:00 a.m. PST

I am still buying 25mm Marlburians from Minifigs (anyone have any they want to let go then let me know…)

I had a 25mm Minifigs French Napoleonic army but sold it years ago when I got into RPGs in a big way.

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP12 May 2023 8:17 a.m. PST

Still use them!

Bashytubits12 May 2023 9:49 a.m. PST

I still use every last one of them. I 3d print stuff to the proper size to go with them when there are holes that need filled for certain units.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP12 May 2023 11:21 a.m. PST

I don't see anyone making assumptions.

A lot of gamers sell a lot of stuff on a regular basis in order to upsize, downsize, or buy the newest thing. It's not an outlandish question.

whitphoto Supporting Member of TMP12 May 2023 2:57 p.m. PST

feed them better

Personal logo Yellow Admiral Supporting Member of TMP12 May 2023 4:17 p.m. PST

The first historical miniatures I painted were a command pack of Ral Partha Carthaginians. I decided to game ancients in 15mm instead, so they have been kicking around for 3 decades, unused. I notice they're still available from Iron Wind Metals, so in theory I could still build them into an army today (at great cost! ZOMG!).

I also have a large and growing collection of painted 1/72 Napoleonics, which have yet to get on a table. That's a different kind of problem.

I am still painting mine, some forty years after I bought them.

Personal logo Old Contemptible Supporting Member of TMP14 May 2023 11:52 p.m. PST

I sold off my Foundry WWI figures years ago.

Elenderil30 May 2023 9:55 a.m. PST

Passed my 25mm Hinchcliffe Late Imperial Romans to a friend and went 6mm for DBA and ADLG. I kept my 25mm Minifigs western gunfighters who were in action last weekend mixed in with 28mm Wargames Foundry and Galloping Major.
