I believe I saw a side by side comparison of the Airfix Bren carrier and the PSC Loyd carrier. Does anyone know how the scale out? Are they compatible? Thanks in advance. |

I don't, I'm afraid; but I recently tried making an Airfix carrier, of which I had fond memories, and was really shocked by how badly it all fitted together – or rather didn't. I don't know whether the moulds have deteriorated, or whether it was always that bad and we just never knew any better! |

The Airfix carrier is 1/76. The PSC carrier is 1/72. The PSC carrier is therefore bigger. Depends how fussy you are … |

If you placed an Airfix carrier next to a PSC one, it would look as if the latter had given birth. Totally incompatible and, as MajorB said, they are different scales. I don't know whether the moulds have deteriorated, or whether it was always that bad and we just never knew any better! I suspect some of the Vintage Classics are suffering due to age of the moulds. I have found the fit of more recently acquired Airfix kits to be much worse than anything I remember…and I like to think I am a better modeller now than I was in the 70s. |

Thanks to all. Not compatible much as I expected. A few turns ago, I purchased both German 250s and 251s. The 250s fit in quite well, but I needed to cut down the 251s to match my 1/76 models. |

I have a lot of 1/76 models. It is hard to generalise which 1/72 models will look OK-ish in close proximity. For example PSC 251s look fine on the same table with Matchbox 251s, though not so much in the same unit. OTOH PSC M3 halftracks look ridiculous anywhere near Airfix or Nitto/Fujimi US halftracks. I almost always try to look at side-by-side comparisons when deciding what to buy – the view from directly above is the most useful when considering how they are going to look together on the table. |

As I said, to needed to cut down (shortening) the rear on my pcs 251s. It was a rather simple operation since the rear door is a flat cut. They are still a little large, but they can be used in the same unit quite well. BTW, I'm a real scale bigot. If they pass my approval….. |

The Airfix carrier was always a poor fit. Mine were bought and assembled in the 70's and didn't fit together very well. |

The most recent Airfix kit I bought was 25pdr with Quad from the V.C. (red label) range. The fit was awful and I am sure I would have remembered it being so bad. The flash was also pretty bad – it took forever to clean out the "spokes" of the gun platform. Getting everything "square" with this kit took a lot of solvent glue to produce enough melt to force the parts together and then persuading everything to stay in place with a load of rubber bands while it all set. Another golden oldie I recently built was the Morris CS8 from the Matchbox 17pdr kit. I had almost forgotten what a joy those original Matchbox kits are to assemble. The fit was PERFECT. |
