The US Military is relearning, + lessons learned from the conventional war in Ukraine. Actual modern mobile combine arms maneuver warfare. Tanks, FA, IFVs, APCs, ADA, CEs, etc. Plus, the new tech of using drones, etc. This the first real conflict where massive use of drones is SOP. A lot of things have changed a bit with the introduction of drones of all types. To the modern conventional battlefield. As well as seeing what not to do with the incompetence of the Russian military. |

Ukraine is going to have to escalate i.e. go on the Offensive … That is how wars are won, generally … AFAIK … More and more we see the US top leaders are not up to the task of defeating the enemy. In this situation on 2 Fronts. Or understanding sometimes you can't keep talking while the enemy is still shooting. A dynamic/kinetic response maybe or is required … |

FWIW – Putin is not going to give up any territory the Russians currently occupy. He like his BFF Xi & the CCP. He is in it for the long game. The Ukraine needed more heavy equipment and CAP aircraft a year ago. But we have discussed this many times already … This war will only stop when Putin wants it to. For whatever reasons. Then he/Russia will rebuild their forces, US intel says it will take at least 18 years. Many of those soldiers are not even born yet. Then using the occupied Ukrainian territory as their spring off points. To invade the Ukraine again. Maybe by then Ukraine may be part of NATO ? And that might deter another invasion ? However, 18+ years from now Putin should be dead. Of natural causes or otherwise. Then will the new Russian leadership decide to invade the Ukraine again ? Will NATO even still be around in 18 years ? After reading that link about raids into Russia. I didn't know there were 3 Ukrainian-Russian units. That fought against Putin's Russia. The Freedom for Russia Legion, the Siberian Bn, and the Russian Volunteer Corps … However, I don't see the numbers of losses in men and equipment that Ned claims ? CNN says a lot of this is all in unsubstantiated. So, I await more accurate intel.

Interesting to note that the casualties (confirmed or not) about those Russians was "A disgusting waste of life…" but it's not the thousands soldiers who died (or worst) each day in the attemp of conquering Ukraine…. Armand |
Ned Ludd | 16 Mar 2024 4:34 a.m. PST |
It's a disgusting waste of life. Because at this stage what were they going to achieve? They could have stayed in russia for a few hours or a day or two taking selfies until running out of ammo. It was a failed PR event wasting the lives of people. |
Legion 4 | 16 Mar 2024 9:58 a.m. PST |
Tango +1 It was a failed PR event wasting the lives of people. I still have not found any reliable sources to show those high losses as accurate. If this was a just raid those losses seem to be too high for this type of op. That was a pretty big heavy raiding force. It may have been a limited offensive action. As far as wasting lives, Putin and the Russian military have cornered that market … |

What I would take as worrying data… is not the number of casualties (whether true or not)… what is worrying is that there are hundreds of Russians who are willing to die trying to reconquer their own country… that says a lot and I think I suppose that it is demoralizing to see compatriots die even if they consider themselves wrong… I was in a war and I cannot imagine finding out in the trenches that my compatriots formed a military unit and tried to fight their own brothers… Let us also remember how the (applauded) march towards Moscow of the Wagners was like… including the downing of the Russian own planes and helicopters… something smells bad in Russia…
It also makes me reflect on the "attacks" suffered in the current vote… you have to have immense courage to set fire to or stain the votes with ink… if those people are willing to do that…determined to pay such a high price… Armand

Tango +1 … again … 👍👌👍
The Russian Defense Ministry said that Moscow's military and security forces killed 234 fighters while thwarting the incursion. In a statement, the ministry blamed the attack on the "Kyiv regime" and "Ukraine's terrorist formations," insisting that the Russian military and border forces were able to stop the attackers and avert a cross-border raid. It also said the attackers lost seven tanks and five armored vehicles. If Russia said it … it is most likely a lie … or propaganda … |
Editor in Chief Bill | 16 Mar 2024 6:17 p.m. PST |
Because at this stage what were they going to achieve? 1. Making Putin look bad on election day(s) – morale win 2. Forcing Russia to deploy soldiers to defend their frontiers. 3. Showing Russians that they aren't safe in their own country – morale loss |
Tango01 | 16 Mar 2024 10:34 p.m. PST |
Speaking of the Second most powerful Army in the world… is there someone who could explain how it is possible that their border itself with a country at war is not protected enough to prevent an armored column and a couple of hundred "mercenaries" from attacking it? cross as if on a promenade, showing their flags and shouting their slogans against the almighty Putin into the wind?… It's not that we are talking about the border with Belarus or Kazijistan… we are talking about the border with Ukraine… where they have been at war for years… there is not even a border or police force that can inform by phone to the most nearly military unit for help?… how do the Russians patrol their borders during a war?… with Boy Scouts on bicycles?…
Seems that the Rusians are safe in their own country untill de Ukranian decided the opposite …
From that same border… using half of the losses from the meat grinder they discard daily they would have already conquered Kharkov…
Armand

Tango01 | 16 Mar 2024 10:50 p.m. PST |
Dear Bill…. About your points…
1. There is not "morale" in countries like Russia, Cuba, Iran or Venezuela… there are "fear"… Nobody cares about the "election day"… Which are the contenders?…
2. Seems they only deploy in the zone of the meat grinder using the same tactic each day… until due to lack of ammunition or wear and tear the Ukrainians give ground…
3. Morality was mentioned in point 1…
I am sure that the vast majority of Russian soldiers have no idea where their commanders are sending them… it is clearly seen in the multiple videos that the russian infantry is completely surprised by the drones… most of them freeze… A few instinctively cover their heads and even fewer have the presence of mind to jump out of the armored vehicle trying to save their lives…
Those who succeed (no matter the number)… flee in terror towards their own lines… they do not attempt to garrison or establish any type of defensive position… nor to help their wounded comrades… they only run… even The armored vehicles that are not attacked… turn around and also flee without taking care about their own comrades who try to get on it to save themselves… the armored vehicles even crash into each other in their eagerness to flee…
That is not cowardice… it is the logical reaction of people who are sent to the slaughterhouse without the slightest warning or preparation of what awaits them… Armand
