Ukrainian M2A2 Bradley IFV Destroys Two Russian T-72 Tanks in Skirmish
Well I'd think the M2A2's TOWs may have had something to do with it. That is why the Brads' are packing them. IIRC the US is sending more M2A2s. Up armoring it was a very good. e.g. covering the M231 Firing Ports with more armor was a great move. The M231 Firing Port weapon system was a bad idea. And it didn't take long to get rid of them. We thought they were a bad idea even before the Brads came out.

The US learned a lesson, at least I hope so … The push to keep AFVs lighter for faster deployment, etc. Only ended up that the Bradleys, Strikers, and LAVs, IIRC, had to have more armor on their hulls, etc. To make them more survivable.

Plus, even the M1A2 had to have TUSK for the same reason. I.e. M1A2 Abrams SEP TUSK II – Tank Urban Survival Kit and System Enhancement Package. Includes LMG, remote MG tower, and MG cupola. …

As well as the M2A3 Bradley is the improved variant, with ERA & CIV on turret. The M2A2 is what the Ukraine is getting based on the photo in the link. IIRC, the M2A2 has more hull armor, etc. than the original Bradleys.

'Our Problem Everywhere Is The Sky'
That link made it clear to me and I'm sure others. That all the MBTs, IFVs, etc. sent to Ukraine. They did Not have the air support they needed. The US "denied" their request for strike/CAP aircraft, IIRC. Everyone knows you have to have air superiority or at least localized air parity. To be successful on the offensive, etc. E.g. German Blitzkrieg, France 1940.

So, it looks like they eventually will get F-16s from NATO. But like much of the lethal support the USA has sent or will e.g. M1 MBTs. It may be too little too late. I.e. again those 31 M1s should have been there months ago. Plus, in much larger numbers than 31, e.g. 75-90+, etc.

Along with strike/CAP aircraft to support the planned ground offensive. The USA's foot dragging, IMO only gave the Russians more time to set up a fortified defense in depth with thick minefields, etc. Well, the CBUs may help some with the clearing the minefields(?). Along with all the CE equipment sent by the US/NATO.

But if the Ukraine had all the assets they needed in a more timely manner. They could have gone on the offensive before the Russians dug-in deep like GA ticks.

Yes, hindsight is 20/20. However, the US GENs, etc., know what it takes to go on the offense. Using modern mobile combined arms maneuver warfare. Or at least they were supposed know all that ? But as we know e.g. the JCS, etc. must follow the CinC's orders, etc. Hopefully this won't be another debacle like the A'stan withdrawal.

The Russians may be sowing minefields with all sorts of devices. Plus, may be using up all their old inventory … As they had more than enough time to build a modern version of the Defenses at Kursk. While the Ukraine waited for equipment to come and in larger numbers. The Russians had time to dig in and dug in deep. SOP is you need at least a 3-1 over your enemy before you can attack. With combat multitier like CAS …

Saw GEN Ret. Jack Kean interviewed on FOX today. He said somethings that I and those smarter than I have thought or said.

Only 15% of the CE mine clearing equipment has been sent to Ukraine. To save on their MBTs, AFVs, etc. losses. The Ukraine is using one of my favorite tactics and others I used as a Plt Ldr & a Co. Cdr. They are doing dismounted Infantry night attacks. Moving thru foot paths, etc., in and around the minefields, etc. To move to the Russian defenses and engage them. Using surprise & stealth attriting the Russian troops, equipment, supplies, etc.

Until the Ukraine gets more mine and obstacle clearing equipment that they were promised. They may have to limit their offensive ops to slow & deliberate dismounted attacks. Which will take more time and continue losses on both sides.

NATO nations are concerned, annoyed, upset, etc. because the US has not sent all the assets, they should have to let Ukraine win this war.

The US has what used to be called POMCUS stocks. Of prepositioned US MBTs, IFVs, SPFA, etc. in storage in Germany. As it was during the Cold War. Those assets were prepositioned there in case of a war with Russia. Well, we are in a de facto war with Russia. Those assets, at least some of them should be going to the Ukraine to win this conflict by ending it. Months ago …

The Ukraine needs CAS & CAP to support their offensive. Every GEN, etc. knows you have to have air superiority to go on the offense. But the Ukraine went on the offensive anyway. They could not let the Russians continue to dig-in, fortify, reinforce, their defenses. That is why the Ukraine wanted e.g. F-16s months ago. They may get there too late.

A very high-ranking member of the US Gov't had recently said. That the US will support the Ukraine as long as it takes with this war effort. But the US won't send everything the Ukraine wants[needs]. I hope I misunderstood what was said. As this sort of amateurish, poorly planned, Beta, reluctant, feckless, academic, ignorance of history, way to support a war. Reminds me of the A'stan Debacle. With the same type of skewed thinking, confused concepts, etc.

IMO it shows again the top members of the US Gov't are afraid of Putin [as they are of Xi]. And really don't understand how to support and win this conflict. Or as it appears any armed conflict. Again, poor Gov't choices and priorities, understand what is really going on, on the ground, etc. … which is only prolonging the war.

A factory in Russia manufacturing optics for tanks suffered an unexplained explosion.

Other reports have stated that one reason russia could not manufacture more tanks was a lack of optics. Now that factory is blown up, or at least damaged.

I wonder what happened?

The explosion seems to be in a fireworks factory next to the optics factory. The fireworksfactory seems to be manufacturing 152 mm shells.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP21 Aug 2023 3:29 p.m. PST

And that's the problem….our leaders do not want large scale attacks on Russia with US weapons, they are thinking this could raise the stakes too high. Putin might be more likely to escalate his response and the nukes could come into play. We have no intel as the Pentagon does.

But why not give Zelensky what he needs with conditions to reclaim Ukraine first?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP21 Aug 2023 7:05 p.m. PST

As long as the US keeps dragging its feet with supplying the needed equipment, pushing for a brokered peace, this war will continue. At a slow pace, which really plays into Putin's hands. As it looks now Putin will hold the Donbas, the land bridge to Crimea and Crimea. Setting up for a future invasion. But all the US leadership will be out office or dead by the time of Russia invades Ukraine 3.0.

The US leadership fears Putin's nukes and Putin has no respect for the US leaders. Not a good state of affairs…

4 Star GEN(RET) Jack Kean said again today on FOX that the Russians have lost 50% of their military forces. The Ukraine still holds 83% of their country. The reasons for the slow deliberate Ukrainian offensive is the lack of MBTs, not enough of the promised CE mine clearing equipment, needs more mobile ADA and CAS[i.e. F-16s].

Plus Kean said the US advised them to go on one axis of advance/attack but wisely they are on 3 axis. I can't believe US GEN Milley, etc., had criticized this ? Oh well … I ain't no GEN …
