Warspite the Wargamer at the birthplace of Horatio Nelson: YouTube link The house itself was demolished by the Victorians but there is plenty of Nelson flavour still in the village. The church contains the ensign and Union flag flown by HMS Indomitable at the Battle of Jutland in 1916 and two huge ensigns flown by HMS Nelson in WW2. Also in the village is a small display run by the national museum of the Royal Navy in the very pub car park where Nelson hosted a feast for the Burnham Thorpe villagers when he returned to sea after a long break ashore. Reading David Walder's Nelson a biography, finding it very informative so can't wait to get home to see this video. |

@14Bore: As the video relates, you will not see Nelson's birthplace as the Victorians demolished it! There Is a small display as related above. I cannot find out why the flag and ensign from HMS Indomitable is at his church. There appears no connection. Barry |

Any ship that did not blow up at Jutland should have memories preserved, somewhere. Why not? Those that did… also to be remembered… just no Ensigns. |

I think there is a ships wheel from HMAS Australia in the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Club in Edinburgh. |
