Very creative! I was once working on rules for an area-control type of game: the crystal creatures would grow into different areas and you had to allocate forces to beat it back. Turned out to not be very fun or finished.

Thank you, gents! Interesting game scenario. You should develop it. You can use event cards at the beginning of each game and this can well be such a card (Crystal infestation or however you want to call it) with its own setup and mini-rules.
