I searched high and low but can't find a closeup of the actual ornaments for the artilleryman. So I took a shot at what they might be at least for the crossed cannon barrels. Actually know what a grenadier 3 flame grenade looks so assuming it's just like that with just 1. But while I tried mine looks good so at least that's something

When I first read the post I thought that it was going to be something about an obscure Christmas ornament. |

It's for a life size shako, cast in plumbing solder because it's hard yet easy to melt. |

Supposedly from an exhibition of the War of 1812 (http://www.westrussia.org/kutuzov/outfit – but cannot locate the item as suspect the exhibition in Kaliningrad has closed…?)
Here is link to an officer's pouch by Viskovatov (though 1675 shows a Pouch for Horse-Artillery Officers, established in 1817), which has a clear drawing of the cannons & grenade. You will need to add in the centre pin point – it will blow up to a good size when clicked on the picture. link |

That's first closeup I seen. Top crescent plate is not ever shown so puzzling. But for the cannons not far off for a guess, certainly no more detailed than I did. Actually looking into the cords, plenty of easy videos how to make them but haven't found how to make the end macrame yet. My theory as a officer's there might be quite a variation if they are like the Prussians seem to do. |

Another point is in Prussians, officer paintings and examples of existing enlisted, officers look quite nice and enlisted are barely resemble what they are supposed to. |

From Viskovatov re the plaque 0n the shako (thanks to mark Conrad's translation): 13 April 1813– In the Foot Artillery, Battery Companies No. 14, 23, and 24, and Light Companies No. 33 and 47 were granted badges [znaki] for the shako, with the inscription "For Distinction" ["Za otlichie"], following the style for Army infantry regiments, i.e. in the form of a shield, and which was accepted as standard for all Foot Artillery companies which would receive this award in the subsequent years of Emperor Alexander I's reign (Illus. 1640) (63). Apart from these badges, officers of the indicated companies were granted gold button loops: two on each side of the coat collar and three on each cuff flap. This was subsequently extended to all other companies that received the badge for distinction (Illus. 1640)(64). (Note: a detailed listing of Artillery companies and other units which received shako badges will be found later, in the separate chapter "Badges for Distinction.") |

Having trouble coming up with silver cords, I doubt a officers shako were real silver. So looking for dye and it's not a common thing |
Prince of Essling | 03 May 2023 9:04 a.m. PST |
From Viskovatov: Company-grade officers – silver cords with a mixture of black and orange silk, only the tassel and ring being wholly silver. |

Just need cords, and silver cordage isn't easy to find, especially not nylon. All three can be removed so if any suggestions to change isn't a issue. |

Have cordage and silver dye came today, hopefully finished product soon. |

Cords are done, still need to dye them silver, could come out OK or all shrink and fall apart but will see soon. |

I know how to tie the cords, but probably wrecked this set as silver dye turned dark grey/ purple. So it's back to drawing board. Painting might work. No harm in trying now |

Here it is painted, not bad for photos but stiff now. But still not sure if this would be correct |

Found new cords, at least very close. Still wonder what a original had . |

Also to add, did figure out how to make the cords in 2 pieces except tassels, it would be possible to do it in 1 line of cordage |

Did cheat, but then hardly could tell using a wooden cockade, the Russians I read did do this after the Napoleonic era, it should be material |
