Here is my completed little Caesarian Roman project. All shields painted by hand after doing some research.

Great work – agree totally about the shields, Roman legions did not just have thunderbolts! Good to see Legio X prominently situated!

Congratulations! Brilliant work. Nice to see someone still painting shields by hand. I take my hat off to you, sir!

Lovely work indeed. In relation to the shields, can I ask where you found the best source of information? I really like the mix of designs for what is a "piece of string" topic.

Korsun0, sorry late getting back to you.
I researched which legions served with Caesar on the internet.
When i found which legion by its number, i did a search of each one and used any info that i found.

The front left unit is Caesars 10th, i found references that say the symbol of the 10th was a bull.

Another example is the unit rear right in photos, it is the 12th legion Fulminator, which i found out was known as the Thunderbolt legion, so Thunderbolts went on the shields!

The unit in front right is the 9th leg Hispana, recruited in Spain so i used ancient Spanish shield designs, but in a way that would still give them a unified look.

The back left and rear units are meant to be the 7th and 13th legions, i found nothing to help me on these two so made the shields up!

Hope this helps.

My apologies in turn, I missed your response!

Thankyou very much for that, that is very useful info.

I can't believe I haven't responded to this yet- I was convinced that I had.

These are superb and look all the better for it with the researched shield emblems.

Superb brushwork Chris.

I love that Hispania Legion, might have to pinch that idea, it is very cool, nice work all round.
