In chicago.

A vendor I knew once told me, if he knew what would sell and what wouldn't, he could go to the show on his motorcycle.

Well, I don't have a motorcycle, so this is your chance to tell me what to bring.

Figs: painted? unpainted? scale? period?

Books, terrain, rules?

Myself, I'm looking for a remote for a Roku 3820 4k streaming stick

will trade.

I'm coming ready to spend. The problem is, I don't know what I want. Probably some pre painted modern aircraft at I94, and some Normans, Saxons or Vikings in 28mm or Terrain/Buildings for the same. Beyond that? I will know it when I see it, unfortunately.

I won't be there but at this point I have a pretty complete collection. So for me painted terrain is about all I spend money on these days.

I really don't need much of anything. I always take a pocketful of cash to cons in case I see something that I want.

What is "hot" right now? Warlord Epic? 25mm WWII? I'd probably take my best sellers, some odd-ball items, and put a hefty discount on slow movers just to clear space and get some money back. Some painted figures can't hurt as long as they are well packed and reasonably priced.

I am always up for terrain, but so few vendors seem to bring any these days to the shows I've been to.

Been to a couple of LW and frankly to me it isn't worth the expense and the drive to attend.

I always end up buying something but nowadays it's just paint or maybe some books. There's a couple of rules I want to get but doubt they'll be there, the usual vendors I see there don't carry them and if I have to order there I might as well just order from home. Got enough minis and terrain.

I'd probably spend money in their flea market. Oh yeah, they.don't have one anymore.

You're killing me. I remember a rumor where a very surly vendor didn't like the flea market since it was competition. They say not to speak ill of the dead so I'll leave it at that.

Stupid things I would buy? Epic P&S which were not out at AdeptiCon. A saga army I don't need. Tiny ships for Nimitz because I'm too lazy to print them.

Pretty much my feeling, Elmo, bjporter. If a professional vendor sells at a convention, he'll sell by e-mail, and postage and handling are never as high as travel costs. These days, you have to have another reason to attend. A flea market might qualify, since it offers stuff you've never heard of, and may never be able to buy elsewhere.

Striker26 Apr 2023 9:47 a.m. PST

I missed it but are flea markets something never to be seen again at LW?

kcabai26 Apr 2023 10:32 a.m. PST

Striker, good question.

Despite "rumors", for 2021 and 2022 space constraints at the Sheraton, in Lisle have been our issue. With all the rooms and atrium being used for events and vendors. The hallways were/are packed with Registration, Tournaments, Paint and Take, and our Reenactors. There is simply no space available.

For 2020, we were fortunate and worked hard to even be able to have the convention. Albeit somewhat reduced because of constantly changing Covid protocols. 2019, we had to cancel based on Covid.

To help ease the pain caused by missing the flea market we started our "The War Chest" Being held for the third time, this year's event will be on June 3rd, at Trinity college. This is a one day flea market with games. Free to HMHGS-Midwest members.

For 2024 we are back at the Westin, in Lombard. The topic of a Flea Market, is on the table. We will see what the general membership wants to have in their con. Everyone is invited to join and have a voice in their organization: link
