Learned something new watching a Youtube viddeo (imagine that) Apparently the northern victory had nothing to do with the huge advantage in men and material, or even the generalship of Grant.
It was all due to the ineptness of Confederate general Jubilation T. Cornpone.

Is there not a song by Stubby Kaye (sos for the spelling) about the aforementioned general? The BBC Radio 4 has just done a superb series of discussions about the term WOKE as currently used and it has been dated to first appearing in the 1920's (as opposed to the original definition of the past tense of awakening) in the USA. wokism is a modern derivation of the practise of such often relating to a dubious taking of offense for no obvious reason. |

I am reminded of the film "Duck Soup" where Groucho Marks "?" takes offense at every remark the enemy ambassador makes despite trying to make peace. Now that is wokism because it leads to war anyway. |
