Very nice indeed. Shields look great to me too! Just picked up these rules (2nd ed.) and am waffling a bit on square vs round bases for individual figures. Yours look terrific and might have just swayed me. |

To stay historical, I avoided "uniforms" except a bit for retinue and town militia (like they have a bit of something similar- town militia can be more if presumed rich). Magnets to be used elsewhere too (and even in LR speeds up movement). Sides are marked with high grass and or magnet under one, steel under the other. My 100yw "around here" chaps. (many are real). |

@ Fred My chief opponent has based his retinue on square bases. Game-wise, it makes no difference. However, it means he can put his figures neatly into movement bases. |

The shields look great, very clean and readable from tabletop distance, while still feeling historical. What is the lighter color half of the surcoat? They look rather dark. If intended to be white, even dirty white, I suggest some highlights. It may be that the photos are dark. |

Not white but grey.I was going for a subdued palette of complimentary colours – red & grey. With black, this was also used on the heraldry. Surcoats were, specifically, a base coat of Vallejo Game Colour 'Cold Grey', followed by Army Painter Soft Tone (with a drop of added wash mixing medium). I then used a light grey (Vallejo) to dry brush. Sadly, although I am not a great painter, my work with a paint brush greatly exceeds my work with a camera. |
