I've gone as low as 6mm. Basically a base color, a sporan and just a hint of cross-hatching with a really good brush. I've seen much better, but you can't tell at tabletop distance.

I admire you fellows. I wouldn't dream of attempting this in less than 15mm scale, and even then, I'd have to compromise terribly from what I can do in 25mm scale.

10mm…subtle is best. I did a dark blue with a small green hash. Same with the checkered band on helms and socks….white background and small red line horizontally and vertical stripes to taste. Turned out well and yours will too if you follow the "less is more" principle to painting.

I always think if you can't paint something in the correct scale size, omitting it altogether always looks better. The huge bug eyes you sometimes see on ill-painted 1/32 figures are a case in point.
