I laughed when the narrator said Scotland was considered a 'Backward' nation. In most ways that would have made England a 'Backward nation' too, and the Swiss, Flemish, most German states.
The Scots copied current European – though maybe not at the cutting edge- weapons and style of warfare.

I think the narrator created a spurious allegation to disprove it, and show how clever he was.
