Hi,
With a couple of companies, now producing "Robin of Sherwood" figures, whats the best set of rules to use for gaming Robin of Sherwood. With a hint of mystism (paganism) and magic but also a Medieval feel.

Cheers

Jeff

Hi,
If you want to do Skirmish games then 7TV Fantasy gives a good game and has a decent magic system including druidic spells. The Producer's Guide in the rules has a scenario for Robin Hood with suggested cast lists.
All the best,
George.

The Blue Moon Robin Hood figure sets are gorgeous.
Available at Old Glory Miniatures

Song of Blades and Heroes would handle it well, I think.

Second vote for 7TV Fantasy.

Song of Merlin and Arthur would work for that.

There's Howard Whitehouse's Outlaws of Sherwood:

Wiley Games fantasy rules would handle it. Or you could do Lion Rampant.

Thanks

Second recommendation for outlaws of Sherwood

I've always been tempted to use the Old Glory guys and use En Garde rules.

It's on my wish list AFTER I finish my current projects.😇

Second Outlaws of Sherwood.

I love Robin of Sherwood. To my mind it's the last word in Robin Hood in the same way that Excalibur is the last word in King Arthur. Anyone making a Robin Hood or King Arthur movie or TV series since is wasting their time, pretty much.

Song of Blades, or as Grattan54 suggested the Song of Arthur and Merlin spin off. Pretty much any fantasy or medieval skirmish, Song of Blades is the answer.

I'm reminded of a Robin of Sherwood RPG scnerario I once ran using Tunnels & Trolls where the PCs were low level ne'er-do-wells hoping to find Robin to join his gang, but get captured by Guy of Gisburne and then blackmailed by Bishop Hugo into going to a haunted Abbey to find a cure for the sickened Sherrif. It was a cracker.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Just a couple of questions:
1. I have outlaws of Sherwood, but it doesn't have the mystism/ magic I was after? Is there anyway of adding it to the game?
2. Dragon Rampant seems to have the magic, can I play with only 7-9 outlaws??
3. 7th Voyage from Crooked Dice, also seems to have what I'm after.
4. Songs of Blades, also seems to have what I'm after.
Choices, Choices.
I appreciate everyone's input.

Surely the rules must not allow Robin, Little John, or Friar Tuck to be killed! The heroes must be invincible!

I can't answer the other questions, but Dragon Rampant allows you to field single or reduced model units. For example, my 'Robin Hood' is a 10 point Elite Foot unit comprising of a single figure.

Song of Blades and Heroes is less than £10.00 GBP on Amazon. Take a punt, I don't think you'll regret it.

Depending on what level of magic you're looking for, the magic in SoBaH is ultra streamlined. There are only two spells – transfix and attack, the rationale being that spells useful in a skirmish wargame are going to boil down to either of those effects, in essence. Advanced SoBaH has more spells, as well as a reaction system, whilst being otherwise the same game.

Song of Arthur and Merlin has the restricted magic of the original game, but does detail a lot of Arthurian magic items and their effects, which might be a close fit to the folkloric magic of Robin of Sherwood. Again, the meat of the game is the same.

What about Blood Eagle? I have read, that there maybe a 2nd edition to include the Medieval period, plus it mentioned stats for Robin Hood and El Cid etc.

I think it's better suited to RPG than wargaming.
Either way, I'd design my own rules.
Probably quicker than finding a ruleset I liked and adapting that. More satisfying than adapting my vision to the constraints of someone else's rules.
YMMV.
