Really I'm an interloper, I'm really 1/144 moderen but WW2 is close enough. I need a new set of storage cases (about 150 pockets). We have got the shiney back cases, very expensive but verry effective, however the latches under our heavy use have broken and bent in some cases,so not perfect. I have a carboard case made for the trays buts it's relatively cheap card and is beginning to deteriorate under heavy use. What in your experience is the best foan tray case?

PS, Not not interested in any other form of storage, we are heavy useres and even 3D prints need protection if the case falls out the boot of the car.

I use these from Chessex:

Smaller vehicles may shift a bit but there's foam on all sidea to protect them.

Available from many places.

I make my own! 4' x 8' sheet of foam is about $20. USD

For 1/144 I've had no brilliant ideas yet, but if I lived in the UK I'd probably make my own foam inserts for 4L, 9L and 0.55L Really Useful Boxes. (Before you ask: The 0.55L boxes nest inside the 4L and 9L, and the 4L & 9L stack and have interchangeable lids. That's why those boxes.)

These are the RUB sizes I chose when RUBs were cheap in the US, and I have a few different collections in them. I'd keep on using them if they were still cheap.

My storage solutions for most things have started to migrate to 12x12 boxes, because the scrapbooking hobby has made them cheap and easy to find, they come in a variety of depths, and it's really nice to have all my boxes stack together. My ever-growing collection of 1/200 and 1/144 aircraft is migrating into 12x12 boxes with foam trays I made from pick and pull foam. I can pluck out the right shape and size for each miniature so it has proper cushioning in all directions. I'm contemplating doing this for my 1/144 AFVs, because it would really help protect the long plastic barrels.

I experimented with making a custom foam tray out of the higher density EVA foam ("Fun Foam") because it's easier to cut to size and glue together. It's by far the best way to make a perfect custom foam tray that fits a miniatures collection with minimum spacing, but it's a lot of work to make a grid.

Can you just replace the latches?
