Greetings All, I was searching for ideas on how to properly paint and base my US and Spanish ships (I'm focusing on The Battle of Manila Bay – 1898). I found some great threads here in a bunch of separate sections. So I thought I would start a new thread, and show what I did. I started of with a test print, mainly just for the ship name and designation. But I decided to paste a pic of ships wake on it, just so I can get a better idea of what the finished product would look like. Anyway, here is a link (which I hope works) to my project: link |

The link gives "This page isn't available The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed." And then wants me to log in to Facebook… |

The US squadron at Manila Bay had stopped in Hong Kong and they all got new dark gray paint jobs. The Spanish fleet was still in peacetime livery. Most had black hulls, tho one was in white. IIRC, they'd started to paint over one ship in gray, but hadn't gotten very far. link Manila Bay isn't an especially interesting battle. In truth it was more akin to a mugging. At 2400 scale most of the Spanish ships are super small. Santiago is a more spirited, tho still lopsided fight. There are a zillion ways to base ships. Mostly it's a balancing act between bases that are too thick, and thinner bases that might warp. I use 1/16" craft plywood. |

Sorry all. I need to get an actual website to share projects, instead of using FB all the time. Note sure if this link will be any better. facebook.com/Beeker.SNTG |

As HMS Exeter stated, the Battle of Manila Bay wasn't really interesting and was like a mugging. However my research shows that the Spanish had 22 Gunboats and Torpedo Boats that could have been called in. Not saying that could have turned the battle, but to have that many fast moving ships to contend with would have changed the US tactics. So the game I'm going to run is going to bring in those Gunboats and Torpedo Boats. Just not sure how I'm going to do it yet. We'll learn more after playtesting the scenario. |
