Hi
I am trying to figure out did the british artillerists wear red coats or blue coats at the time of the Jacobite Rebellion and War of Austrian Succession. I can find images for the War of Spanish Succession where the coats are red, and images for SYW where teh coats are blue, but what of the time in between

my only reference so far are the miniatures on the flags of war site which have the royal artillery painted as blue for the Jacobite Rebellion range

The Royal Regiment of Artillery was formed in 1722 from independent companies previously created under command of the Board of Ordnance, who originally had been civilian employees, not soldiers.

The 1742 Cloathing Book clealy shows personnel in blue coats. Morier later (ca 1750) shows officers with red waistcoats and other ranks with blue.

According to Grant ( Armies and Uniforms of Marlborough's Wars Vol 1) the first blue uniforms date from 1716, when the first two permanent companies of artillery were formed.

Yes, what 42flanker said! Blue coats, red cuffs and turnbacks. Lace was yellow (gold for officers). Breeches were blue, red for officers.

Oops, PS to the above: Lapels would also be red. Also, belts are buff leather.
