Is anyone familiar with Rampant Colonialism! by Flagship Games? I can find absolutely nothing about it online except a summary/review of it by the publisher. How does it compare with gold standards like The Sword and the Flame or The Men Who Would Be Kings? |

Not very well rated, albeit by only two gamers, on BoardGameGeek -- link Jim |

Well, I'm the new owner/publisher and I wrote this summary of the rules: link I have run the game at my local club and it has been well received. It is very fast and very bloody. Requires more troops and is more detailed than Men Who Would Be Kings, is a little simpler and more streamlined than TSATF especially the melee rules. Did you have any specific questions? |

Col Campbell, thanks for the link. Yes, I saw that rating on Board Game Geek, but with only two votes and no context, it's hard to consider it definitive. Extra Crispy, thanks for your link. That is the summary/review by the publisher that I referenced in my original post. It's a very thorough and helpful overview of the game. However, coming from the owner/publisher, I could not consider it unbiased, though it's clear that whoever wrote it was trying to be as neutral as possible, which I appreciate. I had just hoped that there might be some independent, third-party opinions on the game. The altogether too brief description that you gave in your response above comparing and contrasting Rampant Colonialism! with TSATF and TMWWBK was very helpful. That's the kind of insight I was hoping for. In short, I'm trying to see what the system offers and it's too bad that there isn't more out there about it. Sometimes perfectly good rulesets seem to languish either because of lack of exposure or because they don't seem to offer anything different than already established rulesets. Rampant Colonialism! for certain suffers the first problem; I'm glad that I came across it, though I don't recall how. But it's the second issue that I want to learn about: what does it offer and how does it compare to others. It's sad that your statement above is the most I've read on the matter. I suppose I'll simply have to run the game through its paces and post some reviews/comparisons of my own! |

Well, to be fair, RC was published long before the internet was really a big thing! |

So the rules are available from you for $15 USD, Mark? |

I played one game using the rules, years ago, at a convention. My buddy used the rules for a WW1 sideshow game in the Middle East. I found them confusing and had a hard time with the defensive fire turn order. I admit it's not fair to judge the rules after just one game, although, now I think about it, we never played the rules again. |
