I was watching a YouTube video biography of Fulgencio Batista, the Cuban president who was in the pocket of The Mafia before he was overthrown.

As part of his 1940's history it mentioned that Cuba was one of the first countries to side with the USA after Pearl Harbor and later allowed US air bases, etc, for anti-boat patrols.

It also mentioned that the Cuban navy's sub-chasers claimed a kill, the U-176. I looked it up and – sure enough – it is true. According to a US source it is also the smallest class of ship to ever get a confirmed U-boat kill.

Yes, the sonar man in the Cuban patrol boat later became an admiral in Fidel's Cuban Navy.
