Hi All I have this photo of 9th Bengal Cavalry at Suakin in 1885 (in Brian Robson's Fuzzy Wuzzy). I am wondering about the colour of the turbans. These are captioned as officers; would officers' and OR's turbans be the same?

These would be very dark blue with yellow/gold contrast. OR's would be basically the same except they would b expected to wrap their turbans in a uniform manner, allowing for differences of religion of course. As you can see here, the Indian officers are allowed a great deal of latitude in how they wrap their turbans. They also tend to have a patka (head covering worn under the turban) in the contrasting color. |
