That is really cool! I don't have the patience to make them, but they would be nice on the table.

This is great. I'm setting my wife to work making tiny corns out of sculpy…

A great piece and a super tutorial.

Mr Bond is an expert in all matters regarding military modelling and these are typically excellent.

In 20 mm I used Tasma corn which represent both authenticity and a great price for my Antietam project.

Best wishes,

Chris

Waouhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

mildbill22 Mar 2023 7:03 a.m. PST

Nice to see that the corn is not in rows, as would be correct until after the Civil War.

Grant, in his account of Belmont, mentions the corn being in rows.

A terrific effect.

It struck me, on a visit to Waterloo one summer, just what an obstacle is a cornfield. Almost impenetrable to a footslogger.

Wheat field may tangle you up and pull your boots off. Rape seed will trip you a dozen times, but maize (as I think farmers call this over here) is almost impassible.

Honestly, a tilled field is rough going. I crossed one at Gettysburg and regretted it enough to want to turn back and go around instead.

Happy you like it boys…

There is a misconception about American corn/ maize fields in that they were dense jungle plantings, before the introduction of hybrid varieties and mechanisation.

As a farmer, harvesting the crop is quite important. Hence the checkerboard style of planting allowing lanes for maintenance and reaping the annual reward.

I studied this extensively for my Antietam re fight as the area is covered with these fields ( not just Mr D R Miller).

This excellent link should clear up any confusion.

Beautiful work!

And the worst footing I ever encountered (during a reenactment) was on a recently HARVESTED corn field. I'm sure it was the effect of the modern harvesting machine, but there were a great many short pieces of corn stalk everywhere and they were SLIPPERY! Trying to cross the field was like trying to march on an ice skating rink.

Some extra information on these; the Fejka line apparently covers a large range of artificial plants. The particular Fejka in question is the 9cm Rosemary, the Ikea catalog code for it is 903.821.13.
