I will be travelling from the UK to visit Vermont from 23-29 July this year. Staying in Montpelier, but hoping to get day trips out to Burlington and Barre. Understand that there are a couple of stores in Burlington and at least one board games café, The Boardroom. Grateful for any recommendations on stores, clubs or board game cafés, particularly if in Montpelier. Thanks, Ezza |

You will be not too far from Lake Champlain and it's various forts (Ticonderoga, etc.). A day trip there might prove interesting since you are an 18th century gamer (according to your TMP zones of interest). Jim |

My wife s from there, and it is very different place from urban America. I have no recommendations for you, but it is a great place to visit (and live). By all means do some reading about the Green Mountain Boys and Ethan Allen before you go. The early history of Vermont is pretty fun. Think: Mountain Pirates! (sort of), |

Jim – Thanks and hoping to get a look around Lake Champlain. Will let you know if I get a glimpse of Champ. jgawne – Thanks and visited Montpelier many years ago, so keen to revisit. May even attempt watching my first live baseball game, watching the Vermont Mountaineers in action. |

I lived there in the 1990s. Barre is just a few minutes drive away. Quarterstaff games was a go-to place in Burlington and the website says it is still there, should be worth a visit. Lots of small independent distilleries have opened up in the area too! Check out the Wayside restaurant/diner just outside of Montpelier, their pies are great! |

JLA105, I visited there in the 1990s. Will try and drop by Quarterstaff Games. Having seen their menu a bite to eat at the Wayside sounds very appealing. Thanks, Ezza |

Besides the historical sites if you're a Star Trek fan, in the village of Ticonderoga is the Star Trek Original series site. It's the Enterprise in a building, not to mention its mini museum of original series gear. It's really cool, I've been there a dozen times and William Shatner goes there for conventions. startrektour.com |

Before you get excited about Ti or Fort William Henry, just understand it's a bit of a drive to the other side of the Lake. My National Guard unit is in Jericho, VT. Burlington is a decent place for food, etc. My NCO lives in "Scary Barre". It gets very humid in Vermont at that time of year. I would recommend a trip to Vergennes. There's the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum there. Sadly, the VTARNG museum at Camp Johnson in Colchester isn't worth it. Best of luck. Eric |

I'm about 45 minutes northeast of Montpelier- Quarterstaff is probably the best game store in VT, but I'd also recommend Black Moon games, which is about an hour south of Montpelier in West Lebanon, NH. If you're looking for a historical day trip, the best is definitely Fort Ticonderoga. I hope you have a great time- Vermont is beautiful in the summer! Oh- and while in Montpelier, check out the Barr Hill Gin distillery; its fantastic. |

You'll want to get some mosquito repellent once you arrive, I think. |
