I think this says a lot about how Russia regards the incident… I think they clearly set out to 'tip' a drone. Of course if NATO responds in anyway the horsemen of the apocalypse will descend upon us. link |

I know Russians quite well. I know very well the incidents at Beslan and the Moscow theater. In both cases it was botched operations that cost a lot of civilians their lives. In Moscow civilians died because proper care was not given to the ones affected by the "knock out gas". THAT is what killed a lot of people. In Beslan it was botched troopers attacking. My thought was not to try to "scare" Russians. That has never worked anywhere. I refer more to the Russian double standard where Russia can act like it wants but if they suffer even one percent what they do to other people the Russians screams and act like victims. And then threatens with nuclear weapons if Russia would be attacked even remotely like what russia does to other countries. It is a truly despicable way of acting. Russia kills, murders, tortures, rapes, loots, destroy. Russia commits genocide and breaks every rule of warfare. But I guess that if there even was ONE small attack in Moscow Russia would bitch and moan and act like the victimized part. Truly pathetic behavior. But I never expect Russia to give in to threats or cave in due to civilan casualties as the Russian leaders do not care at all for it people. And the Russian people who are used to hardship and are used to being used like tools and treated like crap will just take it and toil on. |

Still cannot see ho you go about 'Tipping' a drone… under command. Fuel would block optics / intakes. I had not thought of that! But… still think R pilot made a mistake. NO fast jet wants to 'impact' with ANYTHING! |

I served with guys that had all kinds of stories about incidents on the DMZ that never made the news. Yep had two ROK DMZ tour, '84 & '85. I've posted some of those stories, experiences, event, etc. on TMP. I don't think much of it made the news. E.g. my Mom told someone I was in Korea with the Army. They didn't know that we had troops there. As far as, our drone v. SU-27. This is business as usual, with Russian & PRC/CCP aircraft and ships playing "chicken" with US aircraft & ships for a very long time. It seems the one SU pilot got a little too close. He was lucky he didn't knock himself out of the air. We saw the footage.
One or two MQ-9's props were bent by the SU. I'm pretty sure that was not what that pilot intent. As again he could have killed himself. I don't think he wanted to die for Mama Russian or anyone else's Mama. Next time, the drone defends itself? Or drones start patrolling in pairs? Don't know is the drones would be packing Air2Air ordinance. AFAIK it's pretty much always Air2Ground. I heard recently that now the drones have CAP.
Yeah, the 'environmental' comment was a bit silly and unnecessary. You are being generous … it was absolutely moronic, idiotic, etc. … 'nuff said … They are catering to the current administrations catch phrase of the day. You use descriptive words the boss likes to hear… Yep, I know some still on active duty. You have to be careful what you say. If you want to get promoted, etc. Collecting intelligence while flying in international airspace is not a combat mission. As we see like a lot of other things. The Russians nor the PRC/CCP don't care … |

Just heard the Russian pilot that clipped our Drone got a whole bunch of rubles from Putin/Russia … sounds a bounty ? Why not a medal like the "Order of the Russian Motherland" ? 🎖 Or something like that … Maybe he will get a drone kill mark on his SU-27 ? |

SB, is there some way you are seeing this as other than political? Nope. Civilian authorities decided to let out news that would normally be kept secret for political purposes. |

You can clearly see the bent prop on the drone in the footage, so there was a collision. Appears very planned and calculated to me, just like Soviet attacks on German aircraft in WWII, and how the Russians/Soviets planned to take down a U-2 during the Cold War, but couldn't reach it. Taran attacks are a standard Russian tactic against enemy aircraft. |

As I said on another thread here. And yes you can clearly the bent prop in the footage … Yes, it would be almost impossible, IMO to actually plan to hit the MQ-9's prop and/or tail. And fly away … It clearly was a miscalculation on the pilot's part. He is lucky he is alive. He probably couldn't have clipped the prop if he wanted to. Without trashing his own aircraft. We should send a bill for $32 USD USD million bucks to Putin. You wrecked our drone in international waters Vlad. Very bad manners. How rude ! And your pilots spilled fuel that fell into the ocean. Not Green at all comrade. Do you want the world to end in the next few years? |
Heedless Horseman | 20 Mar 2023 7:18 p.m. PST |
Repeat…you DO NOT want to hit ANYTHING in a Fast JET! Roubles to pilot… for not hitting the water! But doubt carreer prospects. Russian 'Maverick' on the way? |

They may make a movie ! How do you say Maverick in Russian ! |
