Gettysburg Soldiers will be running games at Daycon in Dayton Ohio March 31- April 1.
This is an HMGS-Great Lakes event Link: daycongaming.com
The scenario will be Grierson's Raid on Newton, Mississippi. which inspired the John Wayne movie "The Horse Soldiers" .

The game scenario will be a compilation of events that occurred during the actual raid by Grierson's Union Cavalry through Mississippi in 1863.

Here's an example:
Grierson had to charge across Wall's Bridge on the Tickfaw River to reach Baton Rouge…

Unfortunately, I can't make it this year due to family obligations. Have fun.

Wall's Bridge across the Tickfaw River.
Find it today on Rt 584 outside Gillsburg MS (near the Mississippi-Louisiana border)

The distant end of the bridge still has flowing water (can't be seen in this pic). During Spring floods this is sometimes all water beneath. But your observation is correct, the Tickfaw is fordable at many places, so the bridge was not strategic.

Good stuff.

And I love your rules, too.
