Hello everyone, I am looking for a book (but not an ospreys, thank you) with a maximum of uniform illustrations of the different regiments of the two belligerents in this conflict, thank you. PS: Is there anything better than this? Mexican-American War, 1846-48 (Brassey's History of Uniforms) Paskal |

I know nothing better than the Brassey's volume, but may I ask what the Ospreys' fatal flaw is? I generally found them quite useful for smallish wars and armies such as this. |

There is also this: link And this: link I own these, as well as Brassey. I think they all compliment each other. |

robert piepenbrink, I buy the ospreys from then 1976 and they are starting to tire me, if not is there also a Brassey's volume for the Indian Mutiny? Thank you 79thPA because these two are not expensive! |

If you can find Jose Hefter's The Mexican Soldier, it's fantastic. He covers all the Mexican regiments and the plates are sufficient for you to do an entire Mexican army. Text is English and Spanish. |

Yes, Hefter is what you want. |

Years back when I did my Mex-Am War there was a uniform book that had every Mexican regiment in it. For the life of me I can't remember anything more about it. However, it does mean there is such a book out there. |

Joseph Hefter's research for his book is the basis for all other books about Mexican War uniforms. It is indespensible. |

Gentlemen All! Are memories so short? link Fully in English, with more Hefter color plates than the original edition plus other works by the same author/illustrator. And Brassey's is fine, if only for the US information, and North's volume for Osprey is also well worth owning, but as said above, "The Mexican Soldier" is the Alpha and Omega. TVAG |

I can't help on th Indian Mutiny, but Patrick Wilson at Virtual Armchair General is a wealth of knowledge on the Mexican American War, His site also contains some excellent, and free, resources. It is an interesting and colorful period. |

Hefter dead 40 years ago, both Ospreys (MAA in 1976 and Elite in 2004), Brassey (1997), the Anton Adams's book (2001, with 16 plates unfortunately seem done for a children book) and only one recent in 2020 by a compulsive all-topics-periods-and-countries-writer who seems nothing more than a copy of the previous books well all that is not new, always the same books we used to refer for this topic, it seems that this period and the colourful Mexican Army doesn't meet a great interest among the editors searchers and artists… :/ even if Helion would treat this topic in the future I am not sure that the uniformology will receive a great attention |

For years I had: 'Armies of the 19th Century The British in India 1825 to 1859' by John French. Didn't remember and stumbled across it. There's a lot of talk about the uniforms worn during the Indian Mutiny, that's a good start. |
