The last hurrah for the Valley Forge Casino Resort was a darn good time. Sorry if you missed it.

I don't think any of us will missed the winding corridors between the ballroom and the dealer hall. I expected a morlock or goblin to jump out from the shadows of some of those twists and turns.

I like KoP as it's very close, lots of walking, at least 4 laps one end and back.
Disappointed 2 vendors I get from were not there so back to online shopping.
Not been to many, why I didn't start going decades ago I don't know, but am starting to see same players and that's a great thing for a solo player.
Hope to see all in Lancaster

I did the East Coast cons back in the day. I think the best is when they moved around for a while.

Lancaster was nice for Pennsylvania Dutch tourism, Hershey, Gettysburg, etc

Fredericksburg was good because I head never been there.

Valley Forge was close to Trenton, Philadelphia, etc

But now it's "been there. Done that". I need new reasons to travel

As always, a great report!

What is this "probably for the last time" and "last hurrah?" Do they actually have a site for 2024? Where?

HMGS' habit of keeping convention sites and dates on close hold is not the Society's most endearing habit. These things should always be settled at least a year out and be posted on the convention web site--which I note is still advising me to register for Cold Wars 2023.

Not that I'd be sorry to see the last of VFCC. D&D mazes should be on the tables. They should not be the actual convention site. But then I'm not the one trying to find a single site to please 3,000 people who play 1,000 rules in 100 periods and at least 10 scales.

The convention was great because of the people. It was a fun convention but there were some major issues:
-lighter game offerings mwant only about 25 we wanted BUT already 15 filled before we got registered.
-very reduced vendors
-very few flea market vendors especially friday and saturday afternoon.
….
but the good?
-the games we got into were great! great GMs and fun games
-the dealers that were there were gewat. special shout out to Lee at Gaddis Gaming….super guy!
-great people to hang out with.
and the convention sraff?
-super helpful and friendly
-really tough job putting on events and the director did a great job.

Lower attendance and fewer vendors = less $

All events have a break even point. HMGS(E) will tote the numbers and decide what they can/must do. If it's still solid black, probably 2024 VFCC.

If not, they'll have to decide when, where, whether 2024 will be.

In the meantime, 18 weeks to Historicon.

Pretty sure I'm going to stop running games on Saturday night. Too many people seem to abandon the con by late afternoon on Saturday.

Funny though the ballroom had quite a few games gping Sarlturday night, but the other rooms were empty.

TSD10114 Mar 2023 3:28 a.m. PST

My game was going in the ballroom, only half full, despite the fact that the con was apparently so short on games.

Sorry to hear TSD101- Nights are tough since people may not make it back in time from Dinner.

We were in the corner Dungeon room known as Quaker. (Extreme flank of gaming rooms) furthest from Vendor Hall which saved me money until Sunday.

I took video of all our gaming sessions:
Thursday evening: 3 Games full
Friday Morning: 3 Games full
Friday Afternoon: 3 Games Full
Friday Evening: 2 Games full (One large: moved next door)
Saturday Morning: 3 games Full
Saturday Afternoon: 3 games Full
Saturday Evening: 3 games Full (One large-moved next door)

My group had a great time at Cold wars. Thank you to all the volunteers that made the show enjoyable. Looking forward to Historicon and Fall-In.

Too many people seem to abandon the con by late afternoon on Saturday.

The typical attendee these days has an 8pm bed time and doesn't want to miss the early bird special.

114th, your room was rocking and rolling all weekend. The stamina of all of you was impressive.

epturner14 Mar 2023 1:10 p.m. PST

Both of my games in the Quaker, Friday and Saturday evening, were full.

In fact, I had an extra player for my Saturday game.

Martyn your comment sounds like something Burt Reynolds said in Boogie Nights. But to no surprise as the GOAT was in attendance all weekend.

Second 114th PA comments…

Del-Val Wargamers gaming room (Quaker Room) was very well attended all weekend… some images from my game on Saturday night.

"In the meantime, 18 weeks to Historicon."

I hadn't looked at it in that perspective. Now I feel much better knowing it's that close!
