Yes and this last is the real issue for me with the current admin. They did not step up right away to say we are not changing the policies – which for the most part we actually did not. Instead these tens of thousands of new migrants in crisis got the message that now they could come on over. Or they assumed that based on campaign promises, whatever. And we had no way to control this volume. We can have a fair policy, but as you and I both agree, first lockdown the border, then you can figure out how to redesign the system. I am bummed out about no solution for the cartels. Just securing the border for immigration will not stop the drugs slipping through. Fentanyl is so concentrated and strong there are a thousand ways to disguise and get through deadly amounts. It doesn't take much. Its a new facet to taking on drug dealers. |

Here we are two years later and Trump did declare the cartels to be terrorists. Now, will he follow up on that and actually attack the cartels? We will see. |

Here we are two years later and Trump did declare the cartels to be terrorists. Wait two years ? Trump has only been in office a few weeks. However, with declaring the cartels as terrorists, they not only become viable targets. But the US can go after their assets, etc. Which does not require firing a shot. But the rub is. The US can strike terrorists anywhere they are. Regardless without the Mexican Gov't sanctioning and assisting the US. US strikes, e.g. drones, cruise missiles, combat aircraft, etc. could be considered an act of war. The other problem with that is to tell the Mexica gov't what we are going to do. Someone on the cartels' payrolls in the Mexican Gov't. Would certainly let the cartels know what is going to happen. Plus taking out the bosses' mansions will most likely not just kill him but his family as well. Which won't sit right with some in the US, etc. On the other hand, a war on terror will certainly result in some collateral damage. |
