Kickstarter isn't done yet. I am holding out for Homeworld 3 on PC.

Just had someone in a different forum ask this same question yesterday. Copy pasting what I wrote for them

"competitive tactical miniatures board game"

Some miniature wargaming friends and I looked at that rather closely.

First off, they aren't minis, they're fancy tokens. They are scaled for tokens, so a carrier is only maybe 4 times the size of a fighter. And they have big chunky bottoms that connect to big chunky bases for the light ships, and the big ships just have cutoff flat bottoms or giant pillars. And they'll be token quality thermoplastic.

If you think of this like a board game first and foremost, fantastic, but if you were thinking of using the figures for anything else, they really aren't fit for purpose.

As for the game side, it appears to be a fancied up reskinned version of the designer's previous game Airfix Battles. Just about all the reviews we read for that predecssor game (there was less info on the HW game at the time) mention how swingy and random the game is, which immediately soured us on looking any further. But that's because we're tobogganing down the grog slope into ever more intricate and convoluted wargames (watch for a Lets Play of Renegade Legion: Prefect this summer). If it were more like Richard Borg'sRed Alert: Space Fleet Warfare I'd have still been interested, but skimming the rules that are out now, I'm not seeing much to change my initial gut impression. And the feedback from the digital model has a bunch of people complaining about the game feeling lopsided, but arguing about which side is loppier, which sounds a hell of a lot like a game that's too random and swingy for people less curmudgeonly than me.

Mostly, it makes me wish Red Alert Space Fleet would hurry up and do a second printing already.

It's a Kickstarter so I backed it!

I do have a fondness for 'fancy tokens', assuming I can find them in quantities and cheapness.

This kickstarter has quantities, but not the cheapness.

If I found, say, the fighters, in cheap-and-cheerul packets, I'd have no issue in taking individual tokens and using tiny dice set in carved holes to make squadrons in place of the stands they offer.

So, it'll be a pass for me.

As for a link, googling the topic, with quotes above, found the kickstarter quickly enough.

Seen it advertised. If they'd been proper miniatures I might been suckered by the nostalgia.

I don't know. I Love Miniatures. Late Pledge or Not Late Pledge

I've pledged a Grand Admiral. Over 400 Miniatures.
