Mine are as follows:

1: Not enough time to get everything I need to have painted, to be actually painted.

2: Not money to get everything I want.

3: Not enough space to hold everything I want.

4: Not enough time to run and play games that I want to.

5: Too many genres for me to want to do, thus more stuff…(Western, ACW, Pulp, Gothic Horror, Fantasy, Colonials, Pirates, Gangsters, etc.)

6: The most important part: "Not enough time to share it with my friends and fellow gamers", as living where I do does have it's drawbacks about getting people here regularly.

Sufficient time due to other demands. Yep. That's me.

I have one project and I'm sticking to it until I'm done.

I don't call it shortcoming but same as others have written. I don't have to win. It is nice but not important.

Some of the best games I've ever played I lost.

Gaming to me is for camaraderie, BSing and drinking beers. This might be the reason why we usually don't finish a game. :)

Worst failing is my dislike of painting. I only use painted figs so sometimes I have to wait 30 years for figs to hit the table. I just block in colors, maybe a wash or stain, and done. Most of the gamers around here never paint at all, so my figs usually look better than the opponents.
Another failing is my crap luck. Had gamers with 35+ years experience tell me they have never seen luck as bad as mine.

@ Chuckaroobob

Probability theory predicts someone like yourself.

If you take 1,000 people at random, give them some capital and tell them to be financial market traders, then broadly, half will make and half will lose money year by year.

This means that after ten years there will one left who made money every year without fail, and another who lost money every year.

The first guy will mistake himself for a financial genius and live his life out writing books and giving lectures on his success. The other guy is you :-)

1. Old age
– Poor eyesight
– Memory loss
– Lack of energy
2. Limited budget

In my younger days, I thought retirement would be a time of joyous, carefree gaming. The above factors and COVID have taken a big chunk out of my American dream.

Fortunately I have a son-in-law who is a gamer. Unfortunately, his responsibilities as a squadron commander in a different state present other obstacles.

Tactically, I am sound. Having served since I was a Jr. ROTC cadet through a military career also gives me confidence. Strategically, I am less sound. The conditions of victory have become increasing fuzzy through the years. They have become more circumstances of public acceptability, and that never sits well with an unconditional surrender kind of guy like me.

At least until it discovered that he was doing inside trading.

Another issue for me is I have a hard time playing "rules as written" and I don't like games that have a base number and then multiple modifiers that I need to add and subtract in order to roll the dice and get the result. I do like games that have a customized data card that makes it easier.

I don't play enough games because I want everyone to be epic…

I am quite competitive – well I attack a lot!

And currently I don't have any opponents.

I am currently just painting more and more figures and making more terrain, as can be seen on my website:

rodwargaming.wordpress.com

However, inspired by visiting our local Wargame Show recently, I have decided to rejoin my local Wargame club, with the aim of participating in about one game per month again. I like historically accurate rules and don't like rule lawyers, but fortunately that is also the ethos of my local club.
