Be this a future war stealth suit or fantasy figure under invisible spell, how would you go about painting the figure for the table?

BTW, I prefer not to just place a base on the table with footprints (I believe RalPartha made that figure).

Some companies make clear plastic figures to simulate invisibility, no painting required.

How about just using an empty base?

I paint them exactly like the background of course, why?

:)

Painting a clear resin miniature in the transition phase with a lightning/laser line effect at the edges between visible/invisible looks fine, but of course, you need a clear resin miniature.
On other miniatures, it looks even better with the 'invisible' part in black with delicate blueish-gray highlights.

White with grey shadows for the 'invisible' part would also work.

Hey …. honey … have you seen my transparent bases? Wait wait waitwaitwait! Never mind, I know what I just said…

Also, highlighting …

And white with metallic blue wash. Red eyes a bonus …

… or metallic green wash. Everyone loves ghost pirates!

Thanks for some great options.

The figures I'm planning are already in my collection and are made of metal, thus the "how would you paint question".

One figure (now in the stripper) was painted light gray with white highlights.

All Black with a super light white highlight

For me it would depend on the setting. For horror, in a ghostly green or light gray. For SciFi maybe in a high sheen silver to reflect light bending tech. For fantasy maybe an all over camo that covers the whole figure as one blob?

I use a clear plastic cut out of the figure that is essentially two dimensional, mounted on a base. Litko does some of these.

Obviously that won't work if you already have the figures.

My second choice would be something that you would never find on the wargame table, unlike a camouflage figure, or all black figure. So perhaps an all chrome silver figure like Extra Crispy suggested.

Good luck.

I'm liking the silver variants.

With invisible paint, of course. And they look amazing.

Here's a pic:

Great, aren't they?

Parsival – you missed a bit!

Use the Stuart Semple Blackest Black acrylic paint (absorbs almost 100% of light) with the faintest highlight of irridescent/pearl to just bring out any sharp edges… ;-)

Just crack open your pot of invisible paint.

I've always liked this idea, depicting Frodo wearing the Ring (or Bilbo or Sam or…):

Yeah, but the little tuft of grass in Gollum's cave kind of gives him away…
