Hello everyone, I have two quick questions that I'd appreciate any input.
1) Has anyone tried using the ruleset Nevermind the Billhooks for late 16th century games? I know that they work for the Italian Wars in the early 16th century, but I'm wondering if they would still work for conflicts like the Rough Wooing, French Wars of Religion, first half of the 80 Years War, (Irish) Nine Years War, etc
2) Speaking of the French Wars of Religion, would anyone have any recommendations for manufacturers? I was thinking maybe the Assault Group's Valois French, but I think it might be too early except for the very start of the wars.

Sorry never tried NMtB, but Old Glory do a 'Wars of Religion' Range and Wargames Foundry may have the odd useful figure. I guess if you're interested in NMtB 28mm is a must otherwise there's the beautiful 15mm range for the late C16th by Khurasan.

I have the rules and think they will work for the period. You may have to add some rules to your liking.

Get Spanish Hapsburg Imperial from TAG. They will work for all nations link

Same for Hapsburg Imperial link

and Dutch link

Old Glory makes decent figures also, but their infantry are very large for some reason. Cavalry are very good. Especially when painted…

Essex makes small range of Spanish that will work for everybody. Very few poses though.

Warlord Games makes some too. But they are on a smaller side. Their rank and file foot are crap though, very badly cast. I have them and will not paint them for my army. Command is very good.

Foundry has good figures. Not sure of their size/fit, don't have any.

Old Gory has what you need.

I would second TAG as the best option. Wargames Foundry figures are ok, but they are an early range and quite small compared to their later offerings. Old Glory Landsknechts are lovely, but huge! They don't mix well with the rest of their range; which is very so-so. For the French Wars of Religion, TAG has everything you nee for the later wars (say 4th War onwards). The only things really missing for the early period are gens d'armes wearing the distinctive cassocks of that era (as opposed to the later laced and open sided versions).
