I believe Warlord is going to snag me this time -

Nice to see a renewed interest in the ECW and TYW – assume future releases will have to have option for some of the differences from the New Model army to the Scots or the Swedes

I guessed correctly! Might paint a few of them up to see how they compare to Peter Pig and Steel Fist, but I don't really need anymore ECW figures (I've got somewhere in the region of 4-5000 already).

I am very interested in the buildings though.

I'm guessing that my blog may get a hit or three from those looking to paint up their new toys…

BillyNM15 Feb 2023 10:34 a.m. PST

Aaargh! My pet hate is still king… why are shot sleeves so often fielded in just two ranks alongside deeper pike?

KeepYourPowderDry Supporting Member of TMP15 Feb 2023 10:57 a.m. PST

I have just noticed that they are producing a sconce. Just as I've finished making one. I wouldn't have cut up 400 matchsticks if I'd known

I like the look. Maybe I can finally do my "Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen" project.

Now that I have had a proper look at it, I am surprised that cuirassiers feature on the cavalry sprues. From a 30YW standpoint not a problem, from an ECW view… cuirassiers were quite thin on the ground. I would have guessed that cuirassiers would have been one of the separate metal/resin boxes.

Starter boxes look to be pretty comprehensive. What would you need to add? I'm not au fait with the 30YW, but ECW you are going to need a lot more cavalry.

How are Warlord going to keep you buying from them? ECW wise they have almost all bases covered already. Commanders, baggage train, limbers, Scots, Irish, siege parties and that is probably your lot. Scenery? If you look at Warlord in Spain there are a few more scenery packs shown (Warlord UK are showing just 2 packs). I think there might be more scope for extra packs with 30YW.

Certainly looks impressive, how well the pikes stand up to use only time will tell I suppose.

Well, since I just completed my ECW project I won't be needing these. Probably would have gone for them otherwise.

Those buildings look really nice. Would like to see the figures up close. Wonder if any of this line will be making an appearance at Cold Wars next month.

Mollinary15 Feb 2023 2:38 p.m. PST

KYPD. Where does it say they are producing a sconce – I would be really interested in that!

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP15 Feb 2023 6:40 p.m. PST

I didn't see that either.

I would also be interested in a scone.

takeda33315 Feb 2023 7:45 p.m. PST

That windmill looks nice,tempted!

KeepYourPowderDry Supporting Member of TMP15 Feb 2023 9:42 p.m. PST

It was via a tweet from a Spanish distributor (I think). But, with the changes at Twitter I can't find the tweet anymore so I can't screenshot it. It looked to be MDF for the inside structure.

I am definitely going to get them. I have been waiting to see if they would do it, and it looks superb.

I have a small 28mm ecw army but its been on the on again off again project list for 15+ years, and not moving up the priority chain any time soon. No one else i know plays it so I would have to have 2 armies anyway.

this is well done, except for possibly so many cuirassiers, much better than they handled ACW. You really get a wide variety of troop types.

I'm a Huge fan of two armies in a box concept. and I will probably play without painting like I do with the ACW.

I haven't been able to convince myself to dive into the madness that is Napoleonics yet…….

If I didn't have thousands of ECE/TYW figures it would be more exciting. As KYPD says, some of the ancillary products might be interesting.

I guess I have to stop rolling my eyes at new Warlord "epic" releases. This is the third, and I can't wait to see these on gaming tables. The epic figures are generally pretty nice to look at, and this period definitely deserves large, crowded formations of many figures.

If Warlord keeps doing this, they're eventually going to hit a period I can't resist.

I wonder if this release will have an impact upon Wargamer.pl's forthcoming ECW range? They have an ECW supplement/version of By Fire And Sword in the pipeline, with a supporting range of figures already sculpted. Will this range ever see the light of day now, or will it ride on Warlord's coat tails?

In case you are interested they did preview a few bits a few years ago. The rulebook got mentioned in a few of their news update videos. The cover art was widely previewed, and there were some images of preproduction figures (on a Facebook group post iirc)

Mr Elmo17 Feb 2023 8:03 p.m. PST

I think I can avoid this one. It's cool but the period is pretty niche and marginal. If I get jittery, I'll pull out my ACW.

takeda33318 Feb 2023 4:44 p.m. PST

As much as I love this set I just can't see painting the lot. I struggle with 15mm with old eyes now and just can't do due diligence to these.

Trajanus19 Feb 2023 2:05 a.m. PST

Very clever marketing. Just like the ACW sets, two identical armies with two different flag sheets and whatever paint job you choose, at a scale where only purists will worry about historical differences.

Absolutely hate Warlord Games!

My mate has a set on pre order so I'm going wait and find out if I can actually see the bloody things to paint them! 😀

Does anyone think the Steel Fist Personalities would work with these ? I need the Earl of Manchester of which Warlord dont seem to make .I also like the look of the Steel Fist sculpts.

I guess if the personalities and commanders are a little bigger it doesnt matter as they wont be needed to rank up .

KeepYourPowderDry Supporting Member of TMP21 Feb 2023 3:30 a.m. PST

Steel Fist and Magister Militum *may* fit with the new Epic range, but we won't know until we get our hands on them tbh. Both are on the small side of true 15mm. Naismith (if you can find any – try KeepWargaming) might also match.

At this size a slightly different paint choice will easily convert a suitable figure to Manchester.

Okay thanks mate
